تلسکوپ فضایی جیمز وب تصویری شگفت‌انگیز از جفت کهکشانی "Arp 107" ارائه کرده است. این جفت کهکشانی، که در فاصله 465 میلیون سال نوری از ما و در صورت فلکی شیر کوچک قرار دارد، شامل دو کهکشان بزرگ مارپیچی و کوچک بیضوی است که در حال ادغام با یکدیگرند. این پدیده به دلیل وجود پل گازی و غباری که این دو کهکشان را به هم متصل می‌کند، شکلی شبیه به یک صورت خندان کیهانی به خود گرفته است.
در این تصویر، دو هسته کهکشانی به‌عنوان "چشم"های این صورت و پل ستاره‌ای بین آنها به شکل "لبخند" دیده می‌شود. این تصویر به کمک دو دوربین مادون قرمز NIRCam و MIRI تلسکوپ جیمز وب تهیه شده و جزئیاتی از این دو کهکشان را نشان می‌دهد که با تلسکوپ هابل قابل مشاهده نبود.
این دو کهکشان توسط اخترشناس آمریکایی هالتون آرپ در سال 1966 به‌عنوان بخشی از "اطلس کهکشان‌های عجیب" شناسایی شدند. هابل نیز پیشتر این کهکشان‌ها را رصد کرده بود، اما جیمز وب با قابلیت‌های ویژه‌اش، به بررسی دقیق‌تر مناطق فعال ستاره‌سازی و هسته کهکشانی فوق‌العاده روشن در این کهکشان مارپیچی پرداخته است.
با وجود اینکه Arp 107 بسیار دور است و با تلسکوپ‌های خانگی قابل مشاهده نیست، ماه سپتامبر زمان مناسبی برای مشاهده کهکشان آندرومدا است که در آسمان شمالی در شب قابل دیدن است.

Cosmic Smile: New James Webb Telescope Image of Two Merging Galaxies
The James Webb Space Telescope has provided an amazing image of the galaxy pair "Arp 107". This pair of galaxies, located 465 million light-years away in the constellation Leo Minor, consists of two large spiral and small elliptical galaxies that are merging. Due to the existence of a gas and dust bridge that connects these two galaxies, this phenomenon has taken on a shape similar to a cosmic smiley face.
In this image, two galactic nuclei are seen as the "eyes" of this face and the star bridge between them is seen as a "smile". This image was prepared with the help of two infrared cameras NIRCam and MIRI of the James Webb telescope and shows details of these two galaxies that were not visible with the Hubble telescope.
These two galaxies were identified by the American astronomer Halton Arp in 1966 as part of the "Atlas of Strange Galaxies". Hubble had also observed these galaxies before, but James Webb, with his special capabilities, has made a more detailed examination of the active regions of star formation and the extremely bright galactic core in this spiral galaxy.
Although Arp 107 is too far away to be visible with home telescopes, September is a good time to view the Andromeda Galaxy in the northern night sky.
